Cotton Cordell
Cotton Cordell Royal Shad Super Spot

The famous Royal Shad Super Spot is a favorite among clients and local anglers on Guntersville Lake. In the spring when the lipless crankbait bite heats up so does this bait and the tackle stores can’t keep them on the shelf.

Cotton Cordell fishing lures were originally designed to help fishing guides satisfy their clients on heavily fished waters. It was essential to come up with something new, something easy to fish, something that really worked when all else failed. That’s the legacy behind these exceptionally successful fishing lures, and that's still the way we think at Cotton Cordell.

Bomber Lures
Bomber Balsa B

The Bomber Balsa B is the perfect bait to fish shallow grass on Lake Guntersville. You can reel this bait down until it hits the grass and then pause it to let it float up out of the grass. Bass can’t stand it when the bait frees itself of the grass.

Bomber Lures is all about having just the right bait for the job at hand. As one of the most recognized brands of fishing lures and plugs of all fishing tackle, Bomber offers a full range of Bomber crankbaits and minnow lures. From Model As to Long As and the Fat Free Shad family, you won't find a more productive or versatile line of high-quality hard plastic fishing lures - including just about every diving depth, running style and color imaginable.

Silver Thread Fishing Line
Silver Thread Fishing Line

Silver Thread fishing line has the smaller diameter compared to other major brands. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and compare it for yourself. I used Silver Thread before I began guiding and I will always use Silver Thread because it performs.

At Silver Thread, we continually strive to push the envelope. In 1985, we introduced copolymer fishing line to the world. Copolymer fishing lines set the standard for abrasion resistance, small diameter, great knot strength and superior casting that common monofilaments just can not measure up to. What makes copolymer fishing line special? The copolymerization process. Combining several nylon monomers creates a stronger, more stable fishing line with a smaller diameter. Over the years, several new formulas have been introduced. Our technology and the drive to produce the best possible products set us apart from the competition. Please enjoy your time on the water, and make Silver Thread the choice for each of your fishing experiences.

Shimano

Chronarch Reel

Shimano reels have been my choice long before I ever choose a career in fishing. It’s very simple; Shimano reels perform day after day and take abuse that fishing in the grass delivers. At Mildrilla Fishing we use Shimano reels because they perform and last longer than any other reel on the market. Serious fishermen choose Shimano!

CURRENT CONDITIONS

Client f Tim ChandlerClient of Tim Chandler9-16-2008  I haven’t had much time to report lately but the fishing has been awesome on Lake Guntersville. Every day last week clients put fish after fish in the boat and there were a few days were it actually got ridiculous how well the fish were biting. It didn’t seem to matter where you stopped and fished. The lowest number total for a day last week was 35 fish and the highest somewhere around 110 per day.  Most of the fish range from 12 inches up to 3.5 pounds. This week, I wasn’t sure what this cold front was going to do to the bite. So far, I would say it hasn’t affected it at all. Monday my client and I landed about 35 fish with a good many keepers and today the fishing was fantastic again. Clients boated over 80 fish on topwater plugs like the Heddon Spook.

Clients of Tim Chandlers Guide Service on Lake Guntersville, AL8-8-2008 Today was the third and final day fishing with John and his son Nate. Both of them had many first times on this three dayadventure. Both of them caught their biggest bass ever, their most bass in a day, and had their first double & even a triple. They also got tosee amonster grass carp up close and personal as it splashed water over into the boat. Oh, yeah…. John even got a hook inhis hand that I got to snatch out. As I reported on Tuesday they landed over 30 fish but no big ones, Wednesday was much better as they caught 37 fish and this time the good ones Client of Tim Chandlermade it to the boat. Thursday unfortanelty was cut short two hours due to the storms rolling across North Alabama but not before we landed 40+ fish. Three days of fishing there was over 100 fish caught on Yum 10” ribbontail worms, Xcalibur Zell Pops, and Booyah jigs fished around grass in 3-12ft of water.

8-1-2008 Thursday the fishing picked up a bit and my clients from Calhoun, Ga didn’t mind at all.  I know it sounds like a broken record but we used Yum 10” ribbontail worms (plum), Booyah Boo jigs (black/blue) Excalibur Zell Pops (ghost) and Heddon Super Spooks (Lake Fork). No reason to change if the bass still want it. Total for the trip was somewhere between 22-25 fish. Friday it slowed down again for us as we landed about 17 fish but I really thought it would have been much better since TVA was releasing more water than normal.

General Fishing Conditions: This is when the temperatures begin to cool back down and it gets the bass moving back to shallower water.
